Benefiting Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (AVDA). AVDA works to break the cycle of family violence in Houston  through two direct-service programs: a legal advocacy program for victims-survivors and a Battering Intervention and Prevention Program to rehabilitate the abusers. Amongst local domestic violence programs only AVDA works to end family violence by treating the whole family.

HOME SAFE HOME was created in response to the tragic 2005 murder of Della Isaacs, a chronically abused woman who made $500/year too much to qualify for state-funded services.  She was denied assistance on a Friday and was strangled by her husband on Monday.  Working-poor women like Della are at the highest risk of dying at the hands of their abuser.  Funds raised from the HOME SAFE HOME event provide discretionary funding allowing AVDA to take any case where the risk of fatality violence is high and the victim cannot afford a private lawyer.
